Around late May and early June, rumors spread in the U.S. that Katie Miller, wife of former White House advisor Stephen Miller, left her husband for billionaire Elon Musk.
According to a report by the fact-checking site Snopes on June 2, rumors emerged following reports that Mrs. Miller left the U.S. Executive Branch (DOGE) to work full-time for Mr. Musk.
On the Bluesky platform, an account named @gwensnyder.bsky.social posted a claim that suggested Katie Miller, Stephen Miller, and Elon Musk had a consensual three-way relationship.
The post quoted a source from the New York Times suggesting that Mr. Miller expressed dissatisfaction towards Mr. Musk on social media.
This content quickly drew attention with 7,600 likes and over 3,200 shares, also spreading to other platforms like social media X.
Snopes reported that this rumor appeared multiple times on Bluesky, then spread to platform X when the official account of the U.S. National Commission posted an image of a chair in a hotel room corner, tagged with the ‘cuck chair’ symbol referring to Mr. Miller.
The ‘cuck chair’ (or cuckold) is a slang term used to mock those perceived as weak, dominated, or exploited in a relationship, usually romantic.
According to a report by Snopes, the post on Bluesky referred back to an article from the tech site Wired dated February 27, which stated that when Mr. Miller took on the role of policy advisor, Ms. Miller was also tasked with media responsibilities at DOGE and worked directly under Mr. Musk.
A confidential source within the Republican Party suggested that Ms. Miller holds the role of “controlling” Mr. Musk, with duties that ensure Mr. Musk behaves within bounds, and although it does not specify explicitly, this article hints at a complex “trilogy” relationship between Ms. Miller and Mr. Musk.
By May 28, CNN reported that Ms. Miller had left DOGE to work full-time for Mr. Musk in a role supporting media communications.
The report quoted three anonymous sources, prompting Snopes to clarify that they were unable to independently verify these sources.
While the wave of rumors continued to spread, Ms. Miller did not respond directly but shared Mr. Musk’s post about leaving the government along with a screenshot of his statement on DOGE.
Snopes suggested that this action might indicate Ms. Miller is indeed assuming the role of spokesperson for Mr. Musk.
However, according to an analysis by Snopes, there is a fact that Ms. Miller works as a special government employee, which allows for a maximum of 130 days a year, so whether or not she continues, she will have to leave DOGE when the term ends.
On May 30, Mr. Musk appeared with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Oval Office with a bruise around his right eye, addressing his departure from the U.S. government.
Mr. Musk later explained that it was because his 5-year-old son accidentally hit his face at his own request, but this detail only fueled the rumors.
Snopes reported that they contacted Mr. and Mrs. Miller and billionaire Musk to verify rumors related to their relationship, and stated that this site will update if there is any response.
