The afternoon atmosphere on Rejoagung Village Highway, Ngoro District, suddenly turned grim. A loud crash was heard, causing nearby residents to rush out of their homes to see what had happened.

The violent collision not only left a deafening crash sound but also resulted in two drivers with serious injuries and four vehicles with crushed front ends.

Police immediately moved to the location shortly after the report came in. The initial suspicion points to driver fatigue as a factor.

“We suspect one of the drivers fell asleep. However, further investigation is still needed. The enforcement unit is currently examining witnesses at the scene,” explained a police officer.

The incident was described based on the accounts of two witnesses who directly saw the moments of the accident.

A Mitsubishi truck with license plate AG 9176 VA, driven by a young man from Kediri, was traveling from the north. Upon arriving at the location, the driver is suspected to have lost concentration—most likely due to drowsiness—causing the vehicle to swerve to the right.

The truck then slammed into a Mitsubishi dump truck with license plate AG 8604 UG, driven by a man from Kediri, coming from the opposite direction.

Before it could stop, Wahyu’s truck was hit by another Mitsubishi dump truck with license plate AG 8605 UG, which was right behind it and driven by another resident.

The accident became increasingly unavoidable when an Isuzu truck with license plate AG 8861 EO, driven by a man, arrived from the north. That truck also crashed into the pile-up that had already occurred.

Impact after impact caused panic among nearby residents. Many of them immediately ran to the location to see the condition of the drivers.

Police and residents worked together to evacuate the victims from the crushed truck cabins. Several drivers were seen in pain and had difficulty moving due to the severe impact.

“There are two injured victims. One was evacuated to Madinah Kasembon Hospital, while the other was taken to Mojowarno Hospital,” said an officer.

Meanwhile, all trucks involved have now been secured as evidence for further investigation.

This accident serves as another lesson for drivers, especially long-distance drivers, that driving while drowsy can have fatal consequences. Many major accidents occur not only due to road conditions but because the body is no longer able to maintain concentration.
