In recent days, sunshine has been consistently present, with temperatures steadily rising across Chongqing. Yesterday, the city experienced sunny to partly cloudy conditions, with morning fog in some areas, and temperatures ranging from 0°C to 19°C. Many residents are wondering: is it currently autumn or winter?
Data from the Chongqing Climate Center shows that the typical start of winter in various parts of Chongqing falls between November 17 and December 12, with Chengkou being the earliest (November 17) and Jiangjin the latest (December 12).
So, has Chongqing officially entered winter? “Although the solar term ‘Beginning of Winter’ has passed, meteorological winter has strict criteria.” According to the Climate Center, for meteorological winter to begin, the five-day moving average temperature must remain below 10°C for five consecutive days, and the average temperature on the first day of winter must also be below 10°C.
Monitoring data shows that as of November 26, only areas such as Qianjiang, Nanchuan, Liangping, Chengkou, Dianjiang, Shizhu, and Youyang have met the criteria for entering winter, with winter beginning around November 17 to 18. Most other areas, including Shapingba, are still in autumn.
Will Chongqing residents still be able to enjoy sunshine this weekend? The Meteorological Observatory forecasts that the next three days will continue to be sunny to partly cloudy, with morning fog in flat and valley areas. On November 30, the city’s maximum temperature is expected to climb to 22°C.
