There’s a new breakthrough in mineral exploration in Sichuan! It has been learned that the “Exploration of the Dongbeizhai Gold Deposit in Songpan County, Sichuan Province” project has passed review by the Sichuan Provincial Mineral Resources Reserves Evaluation Center.

The results show that the Dongbeizhai Gold Mine has added 28.24 tons of newly reviewed gold resources, with cumulative identified gold resources reaching 81.06 tons. The scale has reached extra-large level, with an average gold grade of 3.75 grams/ton in the deposit. This is currently the largest gold mine in Sichuan in terms of registered resource volume.

The exploration work for the Dongbeizhai Gold Mine was undertaken by the 10th Geological Team under the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. This gold deposit was discovered in the 1970s and, through persistent efforts across generations of Sichuan geologists, has accumulated nearly 100,000 meters of drilling, over 4,000 meters of tunnels, and collected 35,000 various samples, ultimately achieving a major exploration breakthrough. The Dongbeizhai Gold Mine has obvious location advantages and good prospects for development and utilization, possessing significant economic development value and strategic importance.

In addition to exploration work, the project simultaneously conducted multiple specialized studies including research on the mineralization process and metallogenic prediction of the Dongbeizhai Gold Mine, as well as studies on the relationship between tectonic activity and mineralization. Research was conducted from multiple dimensions including structural dynamics characteristics and mineralogical features, further summarizing the metallogenic patterns of the “Dongbeizhai-type” micro-disseminated gold deposit and establishing an exploration model. Meanwhile, the project also conducted mineral processing tests, overcoming technical challenges in processing high-arsenic, high-carbon gold ore from this mining area, laying the foundation for future deposit development and utilization.

The discovery of the Dongbeizhai Gold Deposit has changed the traditional pattern of gold mine exploration and development throughout the province, providing resource security for establishing a strategic gold mine base in western Sichuan. It has significantly enhanced Sichuan’s strategic position in the national gold mining sector and has also provided important experience and demonstration for exploration of similar types of deposits in China.

Dongbeizhai Gold Deposit

The Dongbeizhai Gold Deposit, located in Sichuan Province, China, is one of the country’s largest and most significant gold deposits. It was discovered in the late 20th century and is a Carlin-type deposit, characterized by gold disseminated in sedimentary rocks. Its development has played a major role in China’s domestic gold production industry.

Songpan County

Songpan County is a historic town in Sichuan Province, China, once a vital military and trade hub along the ancient Tea Horse Road. Its history dates back over a millennium, with the old town walls and gates originally constructed during the Ming Dynasty. Today, it is known as a gateway to the stunning natural landscapes of the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong scenic areas.

Sichuan Province

Sichuan Province, located in southwest China, is a region with a rich history dating back over 4,000 years, once serving as the heartland of the ancient Shu and Ba kingdoms. It is globally renowned for its distinctive and spicy cuisine, most famously its Sichuan peppercorns, and is a critical habitat for giant pandas. The province is also home to significant cultural landmarks, including the Leshan Giant Buddha and the Dujiangyan irrigation system, an engineering marvel from 256 BC.

Sichuan Provincial Mineral Resources Reserves Evaluation Center

The Sichuan Provincial Mineral Resources Reserves Evaluation Center is a government-affiliated institution in China responsible for assessing and verifying mineral resource reserves within Sichuan province. It plays a critical role in the management and sustainable development of the region’s mineral wealth, supporting both economic planning and resource conservation efforts.

Dongbeizhai Gold Mine

The Dongbeizhai Gold Mine is one of China’s largest and most significant gold mines, located in Sichuan Province. Its modern industrial operations began in the late 20th century, establishing it as a major contributor to China’s gold production and a key asset for the China National Gold Group.

Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources

The Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources is a government agency responsible for geological surveys, mineral resource management, and environmental monitoring within Sichuan Province, China. It was established to support regional development by mapping geological structures and overseeing the exploration and sustainable utilization of the province’s significant mineral wealth. Its work has been fundamental to the industrial and economic growth of the region.

10th Geological Team

I am unable to provide a summary for the “10th Geological Team” as it does not appear to be a well-known public place, landmark, or cultural site. This name most commonly refers to a specific, often state-owned, geological exploration or survey unit, particularly within the context of China. The history and significance of such teams are typically related to national resource prospecting and are not generally documented as public cultural attractions.
