The Future of Electric Trucks and Buses
SURAT. The minister arrived at Surat Airport from Gandhinagar on Thursday morning during his two-day Gujarat tour. Here he was welcomed by the mayor, BJP city president and other municipal corporation officials.
During this time, the mayor informed the minister that Surat has the highest number of e-vehicles in Gujarat—approximately 35 percent of all vehicles operating in the city.
Learning about Surat Municipal Corporation’s e-vehicle policy, the minister was impressed and particularly appreciated that for the first time in the country, a city has independently implemented an e-vehicle policy.
Reviewing the work of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway passing through Surat district, the minister said the government is continuously working to complete this project as soon as possible. He stated that in the coming times, new innovations will be implemented to make this expressway more safe, comfortable and high-tech for people.
Mentioning future plans, the minister said that soon large-scale operations of electric trucks and electric buses will begin across the country. “Our goal is to bring the world’s best technology to India and utilize it for the convenience of common people,” he said.
Seeing Surat’s e-vehicle policy and technological advancement, the minister described the city’s initiative as a model for the country.

It is widely recognized for its successful transformation and efficient management, particularly after a plague epidemic in 1994 led to major urban renewal and cleanliness initiatives.
Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is a 1,386 km long, under-construction access-controlled highway that will connect India’s capital, New Delhi, with its financial hub, Mumbai. Once completed, it will be one of the world’s longest expressways, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities. The project, a key initiative of the Indian government, aims to boost economic growth and connectivity across several states.
