Matching apps have now become established as places for men and women to meet. While they provide casual opportunities for encounters, there are increasing reports of people becoming involved in sexual crimes. We interviewed victims about their experiences.

A woman in her 30s living in Nagoya city claims she was secretly filmed by someone she thought was her fiancé.

“The fact that he was secretly filming me came out from his own mouth. I felt extreme terror knowing he had been recording me without my knowledge.”

The man was in his 40s. They met through a matching app in April this year and quickly started dating.

“Many of my friends have gotten married through the app. I thought I’d try it since it fits with modern times. He seemed gentle and sincere. Since we’re both at that age, we started dating with marriage in mind from the beginning. He gave me a ring. I was happy.”
