In the Mie prefecture electoral district (1 seat up for election) for the Upper House election, newcomer Tomoko Kojima (64) from the Constitutional Democratic Party has won her first term.
Kojima, a former junior high school teacher and a four-term Mie prefectural assembly member, ran for the Upper House election.
Advocating for “a society where workers are rewarded,” she defeated incumbent Yumi Yoshikawa (51) from the Liberal Democratic Party.
Upon her victory, Kojima stated, “I have been involved with children. I want to contribute my expertise on how to nurture people.”
Defeated candidate Yoshikawa remarked, “I felt the intense headwinds against the LDP every single day.”
