New Delhi, Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill will depart with the team for Guwahati, where preparations for the upcoming match are in their final stages. Team management has confirmed that Gill’s availability is crucial for the team, especially at a time when India is progressing toward major tournaments. Guwahati has been selected as an important preparation venue this time, where practice sessions will focus specifically on strategy, player fitness, and team combinations.

The BCCI has provided a medical update on Indian captain Shubman Gill. On Wednesday, the Indian board stated via a press release: ‘Gill is recovering rapidly. He will travel to Guwahati with the team on November 19. The medical team will monitor his condition. A decision regarding his participation in the second Test will be made later.’

The Indian captain sustained a neck injury on the second day of the Kolkata Test, November 15. After the day’s play ended, he was taken to the hospital for examination. He was kept under doctors’ supervision for one day and discharged the following day, November 16.

Retired during India’s first innings in the Kolkata Test On Saturday, Gill came out to bat in the first innings of the Kolkata Test after Washington Sundar was dismissed. He did not score any runs off the first two balls from Simon Harmer. He then opened his account by hitting a boundary off the third ball, during which he experienced discomfort in his neck while attempting to play a sweep shot.

Subsequently, the physio arrived, and Gill left the field with him. He managed to score only 4 runs in India’s innings. He was taken from the stadium to a private hospital for a scan. During this time, he was seen wearing a neck brace. The team doctor and liaison officer were also with him when he left Eden Gardens.

Additionally, several key experiments are possible in the bowling department, as team management aims to balance both pace and spin departments ahead of the next overseas tour. It is also expected that during the practice sessions in Guwahati, India may finalize their potential playing XI.

Considering the weather and pitch conditions in Guwahati, special focus will be placed on player preparation. It is hoped that under captain Gill’s leadership, the team will not only have excellent practice sessions but will also be ready to deliver strong performances in the upcoming matches.
