Three additional gold medals, three silver, and four bronze from the wushu sport brought the North Sumatra contingent to finish in the top 7 of PON Martial Arts II/2025, which concluded on Sunday afternoon at the Kaliputu Sports Hall, Kudus, Central Java.

On the final day of competition, North Sumatra advanced six athletes to the Wushu Sanda finals and successfully won three gold medals from Ardianti Rizki Putri (women’s 60 kg), Ydris Talenta Barus (men’s 48 kg), and Fereddy Sinaga (women’s 52 kg).

In addition to the three gold medals, North Sumatra’s Wushu Sanda also won three silver and three bronze medals. The three silver medals were won by Eli Elisius Brahmana (56 kg), who lost in the final to Boston Siagian (Jakarta), Benny Hutagalung (60 kg), who was defeated by Bintang Reindra Nada (Central Java), and Rosando Mangihut Sinaga, who had to acknowledge the superiority of Abdul Harris (Jakarta).

Meanwhile, three bronze medals were contributed by three female fighters: Roasa Beatric Malau (48 kg), Catrian Nadia Ginting (52 kg), and Elsanda Sitio (56 kg).

Additionally, from Wushu Taolu, North Sumatra Wushu also obtained one bronze medal, again contributed by Kelly Earlene Irwin in the women’s Dao Shu event. The day before, Kelly, a student of Sutomo I High School in Medan, had already contributed a bronze medal in the women’s Gun Shu event. This means that in total, Wushu contributed three gold, three silver, and five bronze medals.

The addition of three gold, three silver, and four bronze medals at the end of the competition lifted North Sumatra’s position from 9th to the top seven, displacing West Nusa Tenggara and West Sumatra with a total of 8 gold medals, 16 silver, and 31 bronze, or 55 medals overall.

The overall champion of PON Martial Arts II/2025 was Jakarta with 42 gold, 27 silver, and 30 bronze medals, followed by West Java in second place (35-18-38), East Java in third (32-17-13), host Central Java in fourth (25-34-51), and East Kalimantan (16-15-32) in fifth place.

The Chairman of the North Sumatra National Sports Committee expressed thanks and appreciation to the North Sumatra contingent squad, stating that they had fought to the best of their ability to bring North Sumatra to the top seven position.

“Thanks to all contingent members, especially Wushu, which at the end of the competition contributed 3 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals, allowing North Sumatra to occupy the seventh position, or the first rank among all provinces on Sumatra Island,” he said.

“For Sumatra Island, we are still the best, and ranked third outside Java Island,” he added.

He further stated that from this implementation, they had obtained many notes as evaluation material to develop better program plans.

“In terms of the number of medals, the North Sumatra contingent’s achievement has exceeded the target, but we must strive to achieve better medal quality,” he said.
