  • Batanes
  • the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Calayan Is., Dalupiri Is.)
  • the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte (Bangui, Pagudpud, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City)

As of 10 a.m., Salome was located 255 kilometers north northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Salome was moving south southwestward at 15 kph.

“Salome may pass close or make landfall over Batanes between tonight to tomorrow early morning.”

“This weather disturbance may also pass close or over Babuyan Islands by tomorrow morning, and in Ilocos Norte by tomorrow afternoon.”

Salome is likely to remain a tropical depression throughout the forecast period before weakening into a remnant low on Friday.

“But slight intensification into a tropical storm is not ruled out.”

Batanes

Today, they are known for their pristine natural environments, active volcanoes like Babuyan Claro, and as a sanctuary for diverse wildlife.

Calayan Is.

Calayan Island is a municipality in the northern Philippines, part of the Babuyan Islands group in Cagayan province. Historically, it has been inhabited by the Ibanag people and served as a refuge during World War II. Today, it is known for its rugged terrain, pristine beaches, and unique wildlife, including the Calayan rail.

Dalupiri Is.

Dalupiri Island is a small island located in the San Bernardino Strait in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. Historically, it was the site of a Spanish fort, Fuerza de San Antonio, built in the 19th century to guard the strategically important strait. Today, it is known for its natural beauty and is a developing destination for tourism.

Ilocos Norte

Ilocos Norte is a province in the northern Philippines, renowned for its rich history and Spanish colonial architecture. It is famously the birthplace of former President Ferdinand Marcos and is home to iconic landmarks like the Paoay Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse. The area’s history is deeply intertwined with Spanish colonial rule, which began in the 16th century.

Bangui

Bangui is the capital and largest city of the Central African Republic, founded as a French colonial outpost in 1889. It serves as the country’s primary administrative and economic center. While the city itself is relatively modern, it is located in a region with a rich history of pre-colonial kingdoms and sultanates.

Pagudpud

Pagudpud is a municipality located on the northern tip of Luzon in the Philippines, renowned for its pristine white-sand beaches and clear blue waters. It is often called the “Boracay of the North” and is home to the famous Saud Beach, as well as the Bangui Windmills, a row of wind turbines along its coastline. Historically, the area was a remote fishing and farming community before gaining popularity as a tourist destination in the late 20th century.

Burgos

Burgos is a historic city in northern Spain, renowned for its magnificent Gothic cathedral, the Catedral de Santa María. Construction began in 1221, and it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its architectural significance. The city was also the birthplace of the legendary military leader El Cid in the 11th century.
