The Mayor of Bekasi directly inspected the Kayuringin Riverbank revitalization and normalization project site in South Bekasi, which is currently under construction. During the visit, the Mayor was accompanied by the Acting Head of the Bekasi City Public Works and Water Resources Agency, as well as representatives from the Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Office.

This revitalization is part of a program to organize the riverbank area, which was previously filled with street vendors. The Mayor stated that the vendor stalls have been dismantled, and the project is currently about 30 percent complete. This project is targeted for completion by the end of 2025.

“The arrangement is carried out according to existing conditions without taking over the sidewalk area, to ensure pedestrian functions are maintained,” the Mayor said.

In addition to revitalization, the Bekasi City Government is also carrying out river flow normalization, which includes widening the channel and dredging sedimentation to restore the river’s optimal function. This step is important to support smooth water flow, especially from upstream areas like Galaxy, so it can flow directly to the Bekasi River without obstruction.

“This normalization is a crucial part of reducing flood potential. The Kayuringin area has always been a flood point during the rainy season. With the widening and strengthening of the river flow structure, we want to ensure water does not overflow and is quickly discharged into the main flow,” the Mayor explained.

The land used for this project belongs to the National Water Resources Company, and the work is carried out with cross-agency coordination, including with the Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Office.

In the social aspect, the Bekasi City Government is also collaborating with Bank Jabar Banten to help register vendors who previously traded along the riverbank. Through the formation of an official association, vendors will receive identification and access to banking services, and will be directed to orderly and organized locations.

“We want to ensure there are no more informal vendors after this arrangement is completed. Everyone will be registered and guided through the association, so the environment remains tidy and vendors can still run their businesses,” the Mayor added.
