They took to the streets to protest the death of Ajith Kumar, a temple security guard, while in custody. However, due to the intense heat and sunlight, many of the activists fainted. A large number of students and common people also joined the protest.

Vijay termed Ajith Kumar’s death in custody as administrative negligence and stated that it was a result of the government’s carelessness. He demanded a fair investigation and strict punishment for the accused officials. People from remote areas of the state also joined the march. Police prevented several activists from reaching the protest site.

27-year-old Ajith Kumar worked as a security guard at a local temple in Shivgangai. On June 27, 2025, he was taken into custody by Shivgangai police on suspicion of stealing gold jewelry. The next day, June 28, he was taken to Madurai Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Ajith’s postmortem report confirmed over 40 external injuries and internal trauma. So far, five police personnel have been arrested in the case. A DSP has been suspended, and an SP has been transferred. However, the case is heating up in state politics.
