“If I had been 5 minutes earlier… I was talking with my coworker. It’s chilling.”
The accident occurred around 7:40 AM this morning. A car plowed into the busy morning crosswalk. The scene was 600 meters south of Nagoya Station. At the Shimo-Hiroi Town intersection, which has bus terminals and parking lot entrances, a light vehicle driving the wrong way struck multiple pedestrians crossing the crosswalk.
Three people were transported to the hospital, including 49-year-old office worker Sachiko Tanaka from Inazawa City, Aichi Prefecture, who died. The other two sustained serious injuries including broken neck bones.
How did the accident occur? There’s a nearly 300-meter downward slope from the bus terminal and parking lot to the crosswalk where the accident happened.
While the left side of the accident scene is an entrance, the light vehicle involved in the accident came from above, driving the wrong way toward the entrance side, and crashed into the crosswalk where many people were crossing.
