Under the new postgraduate training support program of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, doctoral students can receive up to 560 million VND, while master’s students can receive up to 160 million VND.

Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City has just announced a postgraduate training support program linked to scientific research and innovation for the period 2026-2030 (VNU Excellence Graduate Program – VNU-EGP) aimed at attracting high-quality human resources, especially at the doctoral level.

Increase the proportion of postgraduate students to 30%

The program aims to build an ecosystem of training, research, and innovation according to international standards, while developing high-quality scientific and technological human resources for the country.

According to Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, VNU-EGP is built on the viewpoint of closely linking postgraduate training with scientific and technological tasks, ensuring that learners directly participate in research activities.

The program also promotes the transition from a traditional training model to an integrated “training – research – innovation” model, with the research group serving as the center for developing learners’ research capacity.

In the period 2026-2030, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City aims to increase the proportion of postgraduate students, including specialized engineers, master’s, and doctoral students, to at least 30% of the total number of learners. Among these, doctoral candidates are expected to account for about 40% of postgraduate students.

At the same time, the program is expected to contribute to increasing the number of international publications in the ISI/Scopus system, intellectual property protection titles, as well as research products capable of transfer and commercialization.

The program will be implemented throughout the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City system, applying to training institutions, research groups, and scientific and technological tasks appropriate to the development orientation of each unit. Participants are master’s students and doctoral candidates studying at training institutions under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, including both Vietnamese and foreigners.

Doctoral students receive support of up to 560 million VND

One of the most notable points of the program is the financial support policy. Accordingly, doctoral candidates participating in VNU-EGP receive a maximum support of 560 million VND per person, while master’s students receive a maximum of 160 million VND per person over the standard training period. Funding can be paid monthly or as agreed with the research group and the host organization.

In addition to financial support, learners are also facilitated to participate in international scientific publications, conferences, seminars, and academic exchange activities to access advanced research standards. The program also encourages cooperation with strong domestic and international research groups through co-supervision, research exchanges, and sharing of scientific infrastructure.

Additionally, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City promotes connections between research groups and businesses to develop research products with practical application potential, technology transfer, and commercialization.
