The United States announced the freezing of digital assets valued at approximately $344 million linked to Iran, in a step aimed at tightening economic pressure on Tehran amid tensions in the Middle East region and their impact on energy supplies.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary stated that the Treasury will continue its systematic efforts to reduce Iran’s ability to generate and transfer funds, noting the imposition of sanctions on a number of associated digital wallets, which led to the freezing of those assets.

New round of talks

This measure comes at a time when Washington is preparing to continue the diplomatic path, as U.S. envoys are scheduled to travel to Pakistan for a new round of talks with the Iranian side, in an attempt to contain the repercussions of the ongoing war.

The confrontations erupted following U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting Iran in late February, which resulted in the fall of a number of prominent leaders, including Ali Khamenei.

Digital assets

A U.S. official confirmed that Washington is expanding its toolkit to counter methods of evading sanctions, whether through front companies or using modern technologies such as digital assets.

He pointed out that the Treasury is conducting ongoing coordination with financial institutions and cryptocurrency trading platforms to enhance the effectiveness of these measures.
