Why There Is Talk About a New Viral Infection in Russia

This year, ARVI with distinctive symptoms is spreading in Moscow and the Moscow region, which has led to speculation about a new virus. The illness is accompanied by high fever, cough, and ear pain. According to experts, the last symptom is a consequence of eardrum swelling.

In spring 2025, Russia also experienced a wave of ARVI with unusual symptoms. According to Rospotrebnadzor’s conclusion, that wave was also an outbreak of already known influenza variants.
