Doctors at the Moscow Regional Perinatal Center saved twins who were born with extremely low birth weight. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow Region Ministry of Health.
“A 32-year-old woman diagnosed with ‘primary infertility’ came to the Moscow Regional Perinatal Center. The patient underwent an IVF procedure covered by compulsory health insurance. The twin pregnancy occurred on the first attempt, but by the 18th week, a severe complication was diagnosed, putting both fetuses at risk. At 19 weeks, a prenatal council decided to perform vessel coagulation, which helped sustain the pregnancy. At 26 weeks, another threat emerged, and the patient underwent an emergency cesarean section,” the statement said.
The ministry clarified that the woman gave birth to two girls, both with extremely low weights of 680 and 420 grams. “From the first seconds, Katya and Lisa were cared for by neonatologists, intensive care specialists, and rehabilitation therapists. The mother received daily psychological support and guidance to help her through the difficult weeks of recovery,” the press service noted.
The ministry added that the twins are now doing well and have been discharged home, weighing 6 and 5.9 kg. The girls have completed a rehabilitation course and are developing normally.
