Teenage sea hare Max has been living at the Moscow Zoo since April of this year.

The pinniped was rescued from unsuitable living conditions. The national messenger MAX took Max under its guardianship and created a dedicated channel for him on the platform.

In this channel, stories about his life at the Moscow Zoo, as well as about his pinniped neighbors, will be told from Max’s perspective. Max will explain why he is called a sea hare, tell what his whiskers are for, share thoughts on winter sports, and reveal his “secret to calmness.”

Sea hare Max arrived at the zoo together with his companion named Charlie from a traveling circus. Both seven-year-old pinnipeds weighed about 80-90 kg each — this weight is considered deficient for sea hares, also known as bearded seals.

Also: a giant panda cub celebrated its birthday at the Moscow Zoo. The two-year-old panda Katyusha is the main star of the Moscow zoo and the first panda to be born in Russia.

Moscow Zoo

The Moscow Zoo is one of the oldest zoological parks in Europe, having opened in 1864. It was initially a small scientific and educational institution that has since expanded significantly, surviving periods of hardship including the Russian Revolution and World War II. Today, it is a major conservation and cultural center in the city, housing over 8,000 animals across its modernized grounds.
