During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development expressed the honor of leading a delegation consisting of representatives from the ministry’s technical agencies, industry associations, and Vietnamese agricultural enterprises to visit and work in the state of Iowa.
The Minister emphasized that Vietnam is continuously expanding its processing capabilities, quality control, and sustainable agricultural development. Thus, both sides can complement each other, jointly developing stable and long-term bilateral value chains in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.

During the discussion, both sides reviewed and assessed the state of agricultural trade cooperation between Vietnam and Iowa, exchanging information, needs, and potential business opportunities. Practical directions were outlined to increase exports of high-quality agricultural, forestry, and fishery products from Iowa to the Vietnamese market and vice versa.
The Vietnamese delegation accompanying the Minister to the U.S. is expected to sign memoranda of understanding worth over $2 billion to purchase American agricultural, forestry, and fishery products. Specifically, with Iowa, businesses and associations from both sides signed five memoranda totaling approximately $800 million, to be implemented over three years. This marks a significant increase compared to the previous average annual export value of agricultural products from Iowa to Vietnam, which stood at $44 million.
In particular, Khai Anh Binh Thuan Company will import 1 million tons of dried soybeans worth $380–390 million from its partner Ag Processing Inc (AGP). The company also agreed to purchase 900,000 tons of corn and wheat from United Grain for around $250 million.

Viet Nhat Nutrition Technology Joint Stock Company also signed contracts with POET Group to import 100,000 tons of dried distillers’ grains (DDGS) and 100,000 tons of dried soybeans, totaling $60–70 million.
The public-private partnership between the two countries was further expanded through a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Livestock Production and the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Accordingly, both sides intend to strengthen trade relations, fostering connections between Vietnamese and Iowa livestock farmers through technical workshops, promotional events, and commercial linkages.
Additionally, the discussion session facilitated exchanges between other Vietnamese and American businesses, creating new opportunities to enhance trade relations and strengthen the supply chain for Vietnamese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in the U.S. This will also promote the transfer of advanced American technologies to Vietnamese enterprises, supporting green, smart, and sustainable agricultural development.
«We believe today’s event marks the beginning of deeper and more effective cooperation between Vietnamese and Iowa businesses, reflecting the goodwill of both sides in developing a comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the U.S.,» emphasized the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
