Hong Kong issued its highest storm warning today as Typhoon «Wiba,» carrying winds exceeding 167 kilometers per hour, brought heavy rain and strong winds across the region, causing the cancellation of over 200 flights.

The city’s meteorological observatory raised the storm warning to level 10 at 9:20 a.m. (01:20 GMT) and expects it to remain at this level for some time.

The warning indicated that «Wiba» would hover about 50 kilometers to the south, with the observatory stating, «Hurricane-force winds are affecting the southern part of Hong Kong.»

An airline canceled all incoming and outgoing flights from Hong Kong Airport between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. today, while most public transport, including ferries, was suspended due to high sea waves.
