On May 16, Chongqing initiated a Level 4 geological disaster emergency response for eight districts and counties starting at 1:00 PM, following a joint assessment by the city’s earthquake relief and geological disaster prevention and rescue headquarters.
According to meteorological forecasts, on May 16, moderate rain is expected in central and eastern Chongqing during the day, with local heavy rain (20 to 40 millimeters), and scattered showers in the western region. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Chongqing Geological Disaster Emergency Plan, after a joint assessment by the city’s earthquake relief and geological disaster prevention and rescue headquarters, a Level 4 geological disaster emergency response was activated for eight districts and counties including Qijiang District, Nanchuan District, Wulong District, Kaizhou District, Chengkou County, Wuxi County, Fengjie County, and Wushan County. The Level 4 response for three districts and counties including Qianjiang District, Pengshui County, and Youyang County remains in effect, while the Level 4 response for Hechuan District has been terminated.
The headquarters requires that all district and county earthquake relief and geological disaster prevention and rescue headquarters adjust their response levels based on local risk assessments and in accordance with the plan, strictly implement corresponding emergency response measures, and continue monitoring, early warning, group prevention, comprehensive management, and duty值守. Key areas such as high-risk geological disaster zones, high and extremely high-risk areas, as well as critical sites like slopes of rural self-built houses, road slopes, and identified geological hazard points, should be inspected and verified to promptly eliminate risks and prevent secondary disasters, ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property.
