Kolkata Gang Rape: After RG case, now gang rape in law college, police arrest 3

Law student gang-raped in Kolkata: A new case of brutality has emerged in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Three people have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a student on the campus of a law college in South Kolkata. The accused include a former student of the college, who will be presented in court today (June 27).

Incident occurred on June 25

A police officer stated that three people were arrested based on the woman’s complaint. According to the victim, the incident took place on June 25. The investigation is ongoing, and police are currently interrogating the accused. An officer mentioned that the police have also called in the accused’s family members for questioning, though no significant details were provided during their interrogation. The police have sealed the college guard room where the alleged incident occurred between 7:30 PM and 8:50 PM on June 25.

Main accused linked to TMC

The main accused, Monojit Mishra, was reportedly the former president of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) youth wing at the college. Currently, he works as a criminal lawyer at Alipore Court in Kolkata. Mishra is accused of raping the woman, while the other two suspects allegedly stood guard and assisted in the crime.

According to the victim, Monojit Mishra forcibly took her to the guard room, where he raped her. The police have seized the mobile phones of all three accused. Senior officers and forensic experts have arrived at the college to collect samples from the crime scene.

BJP targets Mamata government

Meanwhile, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari criticized the ruling TMC government, stating, ‘Anything can happen in this state. Last year, a junior doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Women have no safety here. The Chief Minister is now calling this a minor incident and offering money to the victim. She should resign.’ Responding to the comment, TMC spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar said, ‘It is unfortunate that the opposition leader is politicizing a social evil. We should all unite to fight against such crimes.’
