Painting skills lead to criminal arrest! A training session on drawing investigative facial sketches was held on the 10th at the Aichi Prefectural Police Headquarters.
This marks the 39th year of the training session. A total of 48 investigators, including volunteers from the criminal investigation and community safety divisions, participated.
The session covered techniques for expressing facial wrinkles and age-related changes.
It also emphasized the importance of witness interviews, not just drawing skills.
Participants then practiced in pairs, taking turns playing the roles of witnesses and officers, asking detailed questions about facial contours and bone structure to create accurate sketches.
According to police, a non-consensual indecency case in March was solved the same day thanks to a facial sketch that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Police stated that facial sketches remain a crucial tool for identifying criminals and will continue holding these training sessions regularly.
