Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo announced on the 6th that it will receive one male and one female Malayan sun bear, an endangered species, as a donation from Taipei Zoo in Taiwan, and will begin keeping them within this fiscal year. This will be the first time the zoo has exhibited Malayan sun bears since October 2023. Yuki Ishibashi, head of the Animal Care, Exhibition, and Veterinary Department, said, “They will be the only Malayan sun bears in Hokkaido. We hope visitors will enjoy observing the behavior of these rare animals.”
