The man is suspected of breaking into a residence in Shiraishi Ward, Sapporo City, where a woman in her 90s lives, between approximately 11:00 AM on September 22 and 1:20 PM on September 23, and stealing 33,000 yen in cash and three pendants (with a total estimated value of 310,000 yen).

According to police, the affected home is a two-family house. Around 1:20 PM on September 23, the daughter of the woman in her 90s reported that windows and the front door were unlocked and that cash had been stolen.

Police identified the man from security camera footage near the scene and proceeded with the arrest.

The man and the woman in her 90s who was victimized were not acquainted, and the man is said to have entered through an unlocked window.

During questioning, the man admitted to the allegations, stating, “That’s correct,” and explained, “I did it because I had no money.”

The man also hinted at other offenses, and police are continuing their investigation.
