Just before 1:00 AM on the 24th, a man who was fishing discovered a person floating in the sea and reported to the Hakodate Station police box that “a person is dead.”
According to police, the person floating in the sea was believed to be an adult woman, and her death was confirmed at the scene.
The woman was clothed but had no personal belongings with her, and she was found face down in the sea near the wharf.
There were no noticeable external injuries.
So far, there have been no missing persons reports that match the woman found, and police are working to identify the body while investigating from both criminal incident and accident perspectives.
