The man is suspected of stealing a wallet containing 3,202 yen in cash (valued at approximately 500 yen) from the pocket of a male victim who was sleeping drunk on a sidewalk in Sapporo’s Chuo Ward, South 3 West 2, at around 4:00 AM on August 24, 2025.
The victim woke up, noticed the crime, and called the police, reporting, “I was drunk and sleeping on the street when someone took my wallet from my pocket. I have the suspect detained.” This led to the discovery of the incident.
The suspect was later handed over to arriving police officers.
During questioning, the man admitted to the allegations, stating, “It’s true. I did it for living expenses.”
Police are investigating the details of the situation at the time.
