Suspect Yuki Umezu (36), a company employee from Tomakomai City arrested on suspicion of abandoning a body, is believed to have buried and abandoned the body in a mountainous area in Mukawa Town in the early hours of August 3, 2025.
According to police, fingerprints revealed that the body was that of Takayuki Nishimura (55), who had been missing since August.
In Sapporo’s Shiroishi Ward, on the evening of August 2, company executive Fumihiko Oue was arrested for allegedly slashing his acquaintance, Mr. Nishimura, with a blade.
Mr. Nishimura had been taken away in Oue’s vehicle and was reported missing.
Police stated that after the incident, suspect Umezu, who may have been with suspect Oue, voluntarily mentioned during questioning that he “dug a hole in the mountain,” leading to a search. On September 19, the body was discovered.
Police have not disclosed whether suspect Umezu has admitted to the allegations.
