Osaka’s Nishikujo Area to Feature 3D Video Recreation of 1970 World Expo on September 16-17 at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai: “Back to EXPO’70 – Experience the 1970 Expo Again Through Complete Video Space Recreation!”
The Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 is currently being held in Konohana Ward, Osaka City from Sunday, April 13, 2025 to Monday, October 13, 2025!
A special projection mapping event was held from Tuesday, September 16, 2025 to Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and we had the opportunity to visit!
This event features a projection mapping screening that recreates the scenery of the 1970 Osaka Expo using the latest 3DCG technology.
Upon entering the venue, 3D imagery evoking an underwater scene is projected on the ceiling and walls.As the screening begins, scenes from the 1970 Osaka Expo are shown.The scenery of the modern Osaka-Kansai Expo is displayed.Photos from the Osaka Expo are shown one after another, enveloped in a large light.National flags emerge from the large light and transform into the Earth.The view zooms in from Earth to Osaka, Japan, showing the Osaka Expo venue!The scenery of the venue at that time is further projected in 3D.The Blue Impulse aerobatic team is flying across the ceiling!The Japan Pavilion is also shown.The scene transitions to night, with fireworks going off across the sky!Along with the fireworks, the Tower of the Sun appears.The screening concludes with a majestic upward angle view of the Tower of the Sun.
The expansive sound and 3D imagery work together, creating an immersive experience as if you’ve time-traveled to the 1970 Osaka Expo.
According to the person in charge, they have received many opinions that it would be a waste to only screen this at the Osaka-Kansai Expo and that it should be shown continuously, so they plan to continue actively sharing the memories of both the Osaka-Kansai Expo and the 1970 Osaka Expo!
At ‘EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan’, various events are being held in addition to the national pavilions.

1970 Osaka Expo
