We had the special opportunity to attend a pre-opening media preview for the new gallery opening on the 8th floor of the ‘Hankyu Umeda Main Store’.

According to the explanation provided, the ‘Contemporary Art Gallery’ is a new permanent gallery space, relocated and expanded from its previous base at ‘Hankyu Men’s Osaka’ to the ‘Hankyu Umeda Main Store’.

The interior is meticulously designed with attention to depth, height, and adjustable lighting, prioritizing a space that can accommodate a wide variety of artworks.

From the opening day, the inaugural exhibition will be Ryo Shinagawa’s solo exhibition “SPRING’S FLUTTERING”, running until April 27.

The painter, who is based in Kyoto, shared, “I am originally from Toyonaka City in Osaka, grew up along the Hankyu line, and have connections to the Hankyu Umeda Main Store from childhood shopping trips with my family to working there part-time as an adult. It is deeply moving for me to be holding this inaugural exhibition here.”

As a new art spot in the Umeda area, expectations are high for its future development, and it boasts an approachable atmosphere.
