In preparation for large-scale nighttime disasters such as the Nankai Trough earthquake, helicopter takeoff and landing drills were conducted in Owase City, Mie Prefecture.

The drill was held at the Eastern Kishu Regional Disaster Prevention Hub, a relay point during disasters in the Eastern Kishu area, starting at 1:30 p.m., with about 20 participants including Mie Prefecture officials and police officers.

Procedures for installing and turning on lighting equipment, which serves as a marker for helicopter takeoffs and landings at night, were confirmed at the heliport.

Afterward, helicopter takeoff and landing drills were conducted using the installed lighting equipment as a target.

Prefecture officials stated that they will continue to conduct joint drills with various agencies to enhance the region’s disaster prevention capabilities.

Established in the wake of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, it integrates advanced infrastructure, including emergency supplies, communication systems, and training areas, to enhance regional resilience. The hub also functions as a community resource, offering public education on disaster preparedness and hosting drills to coordinate local government and volunteer efforts.
