“The Osaka-Kansai Expo is seeing increasing numbers of visitors as the closing date approaches, isn’t it?”
“Human psychology works such that when people think ‘it’s ending soon,’ that feeling turns into ‘I want to go!’ We’re seeing more and more people who have completely switched to this mindset.”
Looking at daily visitor numbers, during the initial opening period in April, there were days with fewer than 100,000 visitors. The tide began to turn around Golden Week, with more days exceeding 100,000 visitors. The first time visitor numbers surpassed 200,000 was in late June during the fireworks festival. Since September, exceeding 200,000 visitors has become the norm.

The 2005 Aichi Expo attracted approximately 22.04 million visitors, but the cumulative attendance for the Osaka-Kansai Expo as of October 4th has exceeded that number by more than 4 million, reaching 26,828,409 visitors.

Projected Surplus of 23-28 Billion Yen
“What’s interesting about the Expo is whether it will be profitable or run at a loss…”
“Yes. The break-even point was set at 18.4 million tickets sold, which represents 80% of the target 23 million tickets.”
“Currently, 22.06 million tickets have been sold, with only 940,000 remaining to reach the 23 million target. This means the break-even point has already been cleared. The projected result is ‘a surplus of approximately 23 to 28 billion yen,’ which represents a significant profit.”
