After COVID-19 vaccination, long-term side effects have become a serious issue not only in Japan but globally, as seen in the U.S. This is the second part of our recent coverage from America, focusing on the testimony of a former U.S. serviceman and the connections made with patient advocacy groups in Japan.
“These are all the signatures we’ve collected—so many of them,”
A thick stack of signatures. Junko Kamiya, a resident of Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, is a former nurse and now serves as deputy leader of a support group for people experiencing health issues after COVID-19 vaccination.
“For three years and four months since the day I got vaccinated, I’ve been dealing with ongoing health problems. These signatures are calling for relief. We appreciate your support.”
Since last year, Kamiya’s group has been gathering signatures nationwide to demand better support for affected patients.
“I was left with severe physical disabilities, including paralysis in my lower body, forcing me into a wheelchair like this.”
Many participants, including Kamiya, are themselves struggling with post-vaccination health issues. Through both in-person and online efforts, they have collected over 15,000 signatures nationwide.
