Tripoli, January 1, 2026 – The Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government has directed the Center for Educational Curricula and Pedagogical Research to immediately begin procedures for printing the textbook for the 2026–2027 academic year. This is to ensure the books reach educational institutions in a timely manner and to avoid the problems that have affected the educational process in previous years.

This came during a technical meeting held by the Ministry. The meeting reviewed the progress of the first-period exams for general certificates and the end-of-first-semester exams for the 2025–2026 academic year. Reports on the level of discipline and organization within educational institutions were presented.

Challenges faced by the Ministry during the current year were highlighted, most notably the delay in the arrival of textbooks and the resulting difficulties that impacted the educational process. The importance of early resolution of these issues was emphasized.

In this context, it was stressed that immediate procedures for printing the textbook for the 2026–2027 academic year must begin to ensure its timely provision and to achieve stability for the educational process from the start of the school year.

The meeting is part of efforts to assess the challenges faced by the education sector during 2025 and to establish practical mechanisms for addressing them, with a focus on early planning and improving institutional performance.

Attendees also reviewed the achievements of their departments during the first quarter of the current academic year and their plans for completing the remainder. Discussions included the qualitative shortage of teachers for some subjects, activating educational inspection visits, religious education offices, and linking student registration systems between relevant authorities.

Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government

The Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government (NUG) is the body established by Myanmar’s opposition government-in-exile, formed in response to the 2021 military coup. It aims to preserve and provide non-military aligned education for students within Myanmar and in diaspora communities, continuing the legacy of the country’s pre-coup public education system under extremely challenging circumstances.

Center for Educational Curricula and Pedagogical Research

The Center for Educational Curricula and Pedagogical Research is a specialized institution focused on developing and improving school curricula and teaching methods. While its specific founding history varies by country, such centers are typically established by national education ministries to conduct research, design educational standards, and train teachers, thereby shaping the modern educational system. Their work is fundamental to implementing educational reforms and ensuring teaching practices align with contemporary pedagogical knowledge.

National Unity Government

The term “National Unity Government” (NUG) does not refer to a specific physical place or cultural site, but rather to a political entity. It is most commonly associated with the parallel government formed in 2021 by ousted lawmakers and activists from Myanmar in opposition to the military junta that seized power. Its history is rooted in the 2021 coup and the ongoing civil conflict, aiming to represent the country’s democratic forces and foster unity among various ethnic and political groups.
