JOMBANG – A tragic accident occurred on the main road of Palrejo Village, Sumobito District, Jombang Regency, early Sunday morning. A motorcyclist named Muhamad Khoiron (35), a resident of Karang Pon Hamlet, Alang-alang Caruban Village, Jogoroto, died after crashing into the rear of a truck carrying coral stones.
The accident happened around 00:30 AM local time when the victim was riding alone on a Honda Beat motorcycle with license plate S 6775 OCY from Mojoagung toward Jombang. Based on gathered information, the dark, unlit, and uneven road is suspected to be the main factor behind the accident.
“The victim died instantly from severe head injuries. The motorcycle and his body were left lying on the roadside in a tragic condition,” said an eyewitness at the scene.
The Head of Traffic Law Enforcement at Jombang Police, Ipda Siswanto, explained that the victim was likely drowsy and unable to control his vehicle on the unfriendly terrain.
“The victim collided with a dump truck DA 1020 K traveling in the same direction ahead. The truck was driven by Nanang Hermawan (43), a resident of Wrati Village, Kejayan District, Pasuruan Regency. The truck driver was unharmed,” he stated.
After the violent collision, nearby residents immediately approached the scene and contacted authorities. Police who arrived promptly processed the crime scene and evacuated the victim to Jombang General Hospital.
This incident highlights the poor lighting and uneven road conditions on the main Surabaya–Madiun route. Many drivers have complained about the risk of accidents at night, especially for those traveling alone or while fatigued.
“We are still gathering statements from witnesses and the truck driver to fully determine the chronology of the incident,” added Siswanto.
Police urged the public to exercise caution when driving at night. In addition to monitoring physical condition, it is also important to adjust speed according to road and weather conditions.
“High speed on dark and uneven roads is extremely risky. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, and take breaks if you feel tired or drowsy,” he emphasized.
