The Surabaya City Fire and Rescue Department recorded 150 fire incidents from January to August 2025.

The 150 fire incidents resulted in losses reaching up to IDR 15.6 billion.

Seventy-six fire incidents occurred in building structures such as residences, industrial sites, public facilities, and commercial establishments.

“Ten other cases occurred in vehicles. Additionally, 64 cases occurred in non-building objects like dry grass, trash, and others.”

Furthermore, 38 fire incidents in Surabaya were caused by open flames, 48 cases were due to electrical short circuits, and the remaining cases are still under investigation.

Fires in Surabaya did not only cause material losses. The fire incidents from January to August 2025 also resulted in 13 injuries and two fatalities.

Therefore, the public is urged to remain vigilant, especially during hot weather. “Avoid risky activities that can trigger fires, such as burning trash or dry grass in open areas.”

The public is also asked to promptly inform the city government, specifically the Environmental Agency, if there is trash that needs to be collected and disposed of at the Final Disposal Site.

This is done to reduce instances of trash burning by residents. If a fire spreads to other properties and causes casualties, the perpetrator can also face criminal sanctions.

“If you encounter a burning area, immediately call 112 or the Fire Department so it doesn’t spread, and we can handle it as quickly as possible.”
