In agricultural areas of Banyuwangi, East Java, thefts continue to worry residents. A farmer suffered losses after his water pump was stolen by thieves.
The police confirmed the report. The victim, named Budiono (67), a resident of Karangbendo Village, lost one Yanmar brand water pump unit typically used for irrigating rice fields.
“After receiving the report, the Criminal Investigation Unit immediately conducted an investigation at the scene and successfully identified the perpetrators,” stated the police.
From witness examinations, four unidentified individuals were seen dismantling the water pump in the rice field area. Their actions were noticed by residents who then shouted, causing the perpetrators to flee the location.
Police who arrived at the scene managed to track down and arrest one suspect with the initials FE (19), a resident of the same village as the victim. Meanwhile, three other perpetrators are still being pursued and have been listed in the Wanted Persons List of the Rogojampi Police Sector.
“In addition to arresting the suspect, officers also secured evidence including one Yanmar water pump, one backpack containing 18 cranks of various sizes, and two Honda Vario motorcycles used in the theft,” added the statement.
During interrogation, FE admitted to committing thefts at several locations in the Rogojampi area. Police are still developing the case to uncover the suspect’s network.
The Banyuwangi Police Chief appreciated the quick actions of the Rogojampi Police Sector personnel in solving the case. He emphasized that this disclosure is part of Operation Sikat Semeru 2025.
“We will continue to take firm action against criminals, especially those harming small communities like farmers,” stressed the Police Chief.
The Banyuwangi Police are committed to maintaining security in their area by strengthening patrols and increasing public awareness to be more vigilant against criminal activities in rice field areas.

Operation Sikat Semeru 2025
“Operation Sikat Semeru 2025” is not a cultural site or a place, but rather a large-scale, ongoing humanitarian and environmental initiative in Indonesia. It was launched in response to the major eruption of Mount Semeru in 2021 and focuses on long-term recovery, including rebuilding infrastructure, restoring agricultural land, and implementing disaster risk reduction programs for the surrounding communities. The operation represents a coordinated national effort to help the region and its people recover and build resilience for the future.
