JOMBANG — An accident occurred on the toll road section on Thursday morning, May 21, 2026. A Sudiro Tungga Jaya bus overturned after hitting a concrete barrier at kilometer 686+700 on lane A. As a result of the incident, nine passengers and crew members were injured.

The bus with license plate AE 7264 UP was driven by Andi Awan Prabowo (37), a resident of Unggulrejo. The vehicle was traveling from Magetan towards Surabaya carrying about 17 passengers.

According to information from officers at the scene, the accident was suspected to have been caused by the driver falling asleep while driving. This condition caused the bus to lose control while traveling at high speed on the toll road.

The head of PJR East Java III Warugunung explained that the bus swerved to the right, entering the median ditch before hitting the concrete barrier.

“The bus then overturned and hit the wire rope. The final position of the vehicle was on the fast lane of lane B facing east,” he said.

A panicked atmosphere occurred after the bus overturned. The driver, conductor, and passengers tried to escape from the overturned vehicle in the middle of the toll road.

Of the total passengers on the bus, nine people were reported injured. Five victims suffered severe injuries, while four others had minor injuries. The other eight passengers were declared safe without serious injuries.

All injured victims were immediately evacuated to Jombang Regional General Hospital for further medical treatment.

Officers from the Highway Police along with toll road management immediately secured the location to prevent secondary accidents. The bus evacuation process took quite a long time because the vehicle overturned on the fast lane.

A tow truck was then deployed to move the bus wreckage to the Jombang Police Traffic Unit as part of the investigation process.

Until now, the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit of Jombang Police is still investigating the exact cause of the single-vehicle accident, including examining several witnesses at the scene.
