US President Donald Trump stated that the United States will play a role in helping rebuild Gaza and keeping it safe and peaceful.

He made this statement on Wednesday local time after Israel and Hamas agreed to the first stage of the peace plan he proposed.

“We will be involved in helping them succeed and helping keep it peaceful,” Trump told Fox News several hours after he announced the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas. The US President added that he is “very confident there will be peace in the Middle East.”

The agreement to end the war in Gaza was reached through indirect negotiations with Israel in Egypt. Hamas is willing to conduct a prisoner exchange with Israel.

The Palestinian militant group said “it has reached an agreement ending the war in Gaza, the withdrawal of occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the exchange of prisoners.”

Hamas also urged US President Donald Trump to force Israel to fully implement the agreement and “not allow it to evade or delay implementation of what has been agreed upon.”

The exchange of hostages and Palestinian prisoners will take place within 72 hours after the agreement is implemented. Hamas stated that Israeli citizens held hostage will be exchanged for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Previously, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a peace proposal for Gaza. Both parties have signed the first stage of the peace agreement for Gaza.

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have signed the first stage of our Peace Plan,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.

Trump stated that this first-stage agreement signifies that all hostages will be released. He also mentioned that Israeli forces will be withdrawn from Gaza to agreed-upon areas.
