Hundreds of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers along with the community of Padangsidimpuan City, North Sumatra, performed a prayer service at Al-Abror Mosque, praying for the deceased Affan Kurniawan (21).
Affan, an online motorcycle taxi driver, died after being run over by a Brimob armored vehicle during a mass demonstration on August 28, 2025 in Jakarta.
The prayer service was held after the noon prayer and was attended by drivers from various transportation application companies, including Gojek, Grab, and Maxim.
The activity was led by the Imam of Al-Abror Mosque.
The coordinator stated that the implementation of this prayer service emerged from solidarity among fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers.
“This prayer service was spontaneous, a form of our solidarity among fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers towards the deceased Affan Kurniawan who died in the protest some time ago,” he said.
It was also emphasized that there are currently three online motorcycle taxi companies operating in Padangsidimpuan: Gojek, Grab, and Maxim. It is hoped that the tragic incident that befell Affan will be a valuable lesson for drivers to strengthen unity.
“With this incident, we hope that fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers will become more united and not be pitted against each other or divided,” he added.
