Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno visited the fire site in Bukit Duri, South Jakarta. Rano stated the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

“The fire is estimated to have originated from sparks due to an electrical short circuit,” said Rano at the fire location.

The fire affected a building used as a boarding house. Rano revealed the fire started from an unoccupied room.

“(The short circuit occurred in) an empty boarding room,” he said.

Rano explained that the victims in this incident have been identified. The victims will be buried today.

“The victims have been identified at the Polri Hospital and will be buried today. Some will be buried in Menteng Pulo, while others, per family requests, will be buried in the Bogor area,” he stated.

4 People Killed

It is known that the house fire occurred on Kutilang Street 28, RW 02, Bukit Duri, Tebet, South Jakarta. Four people died in the incident.

“There were four victims who died,” said the Head of South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department.

He mentioned that they are currently investigating the accident. A total of 20 vehicles and 76 personnel were deployed by the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department to extinguish the fire.

He stated that narrow road access posed a challenge during the evacuation process. Earlier, the victims were trapped in the fire.

He added that the cause, chronology, and estimated losses are still being assessed. The fire was reported at 06:23 AM local time. Firefighters immediately headed to the location to extinguish the fire.
