The rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has driven the public’s demand for information on the programs, policies, and activities of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to become very high. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is required to meet these public needs by establishing appropriate information and communication service facilities that can be accessed quickly.

At the end of 2000, an idea emerged from the Public Relations Bureau of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to provide data and information services to the public by establishing Jakarta Cyber. This facility was planned to be placed in several strategic locations and could later be operated by the public. However, unfortunately, before it could be operated, Jakarta Cyber failed to materialize. The discourse on establishing appropriate information service facilities continued. Eventually, the Electronic Data Management Office (KPDE), which later became the Information Technology Management Office (KPTI), together with the Public Relations Bureau of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, agreed to create a website. Initially, the official news website of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government was named Jakarta News. However, because that name was already taken, the website name changed to beritajakarta with the address www.beritajakarta.com.

The management of this website was carried out internally by involving professional staff. Exactly on the 474th anniversary of Jakarta City, on June 22, 2001, the beritajakarta website was inaugurated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Sutiyoso. Along with this momentum, beritajakarta committed to ensuring the accuracy of data and information by promoting three positionings. The first positioning of beritajakarta is as a reference media. The second positioning is as a media for clarification and opinion formation. Meanwhile, the third positioning of beritajakarta is as a balancing media.

Over time, beritajakarta made innovations and improvements by presenting a new, more dynamic and attractive appearance. Various news content, photos, and videos are presented with a combination of orange, gray, and black colors, making the website more pleasing to the eye. In 2017, the beritajakarta website address changed from www.beritajakarta.com to www.beritajakarta.id. Since this period, beritajakarta has developed rapidly by changing its logo, appearance, and adding features to attract public readership. Specifically, interest in knowing the implementation of programs, policies, and activities of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government quickly, accurately, and in real-time.

As the official news website of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, beritajakarta continues to make various innovations and developments. As a result, on the celebration of the 493rd anniversary of Jakarta City, on June 22, 2020, beritajakarta launched a digital audio-visual channel called beritajakarta.tv. This digital channel was born from the desire to provide information services to the public through creative video content containing educational messages. This creative video content is packaged as attractively as possible in the form of various programs such as Petantang Petenteng, Mpo Sapa, Ngobrol Tengah Hari, and Jurnal Kebon Sirih.

At the beginning of 2024, beritajakarta did not become complacent and continued to innovate by changing the website’s appearance while developing the features Lenggang Jakarta, Wawancara Khusus Loka Urban, and Paras Kota. In the future, beritajakarta will continue to strive to provide various information and communication services regarding the implementation of programs, policies, and activities of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, including the DKI Jakarta Provincial Regional House of Representatives, in an actual and professional manner.

Over time, it evolved into a broader tech ecosystem, though its traditional cyber cafés have declined with the rise of personal smartphones and home internet.

Batavia

Established in 1619 by the Dutch East India Company (VOC), it served as a major center for trade and administration for nearly 350 years. The city was renamed Jakarta after Indonesian independence in 1945, but its historic core, known as Kota Tua, still preserves Dutch colonial architecture.

Sunda Kelapa
