Barcelona will not be allowed to register Dani Olmo after La Liga rejects club’s appeal

Barcelona’s attempt to register midfielder Dani Olmo for the second half of the season has been rejected by La Liga, the Spanish league confirmed on Saturday.

The Spanish champions had appealed to La Liga to allow them to register the Spain international, who joined the club from RB Leipzig in the summer for a reported fee of €60 million. However, the league has ruled that Barcelona have not complied with the league’s financial fair play regulations.

Olmo was registered for the first half of the season after Barcelona successfully argued that they could use the salary cap space freed up by the long-term injury of defender Andreas Christensen. However, with Christensen now fit again, Barcelona have lost that exemption.

The club had hoped to register Olmo for the remainder of the season by selling VIP boxes at the renovated Camp Nou, which is currently under construction. However, La Liga has rejected that proposal.

Barcelona have been struggling to comply with La Liga’s strict financial fair play rules for several years, which has limited their ability to sign and register new players.

Olmo, 26, has scored five goals and provided six assists in 15 appearances for Barcelona this season.
