The sacrificial cow “Sheva” gifted by President Prabowo in Bandung passed strict selection, reaching a weight of 1.25 tons.
Sheva, a sacrificial cow donated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, became the center of attention among Bandung City residents when it was handed over after Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri prayers at Al-Ukhuwah Mosque on Wednesday (27/5/2026). The cow, weighing 1.25 tons, drew interest due to its large size and was the only animal to pass the strict selection process for a sacrificial offering for Bandung City.
The three-year-old cow originated from Central Java and was raised in the Ujungberung area of Bandung City. Before being designated as a sacrificial animal, Sheva underwent a series of health checks and selection stages alongside several other cows proposed by the Bandung City Government.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the city initially proposed six of its best cows for the sacrificial animal selection process. Out of all the candidates, only Sheva was ultimately chosen.
“This is the one selected from the six we offered,” said Farhan on Wednesday (27/5/2026).
Farhan stated that the President of Indonesia tasked local governments with finding the best cows that met health, quality, and weight requirements before being proposed as candidates for sacrificial animals. After a thorough examination, Sheva was declared healthy and fit for slaughter.
“Mr. Prabowo tasked the local government with finding the cows to be nominated. So, we proposed six candidates, and this one was chosen,” he said.
The name Sheva itself did not come from a special request by the President. The cow was named by the breeder and the field team before the selection process took place. Nevertheless, the name has now become known to the public because Sheva became the President’s sacrificial animal for Bandung City.
After being symbolically handed over at Al-Ukhuwah Mosque, Sheva was immediately taken to the Ciroyom slaughterhouse for the slaughtering process.
“The meat was then distributed to the needy in various areas of Bandung City on the same day,” said Farhan.
