A special CBI court in Mumbai has allowed the CBI to remove some witnesses from its list in the Sheena Bora murder case. These witnesses include media professional Ravina Raj Kohli and Shabnam Singh, the first wife of Peter Mukerjea.
In its application submitted to the court, the CBI stated that statements from 139 witnesses have already been recorded. Many of the remaining witnesses were providing repetitive statements or were not essential for the resolution of the case. The agency said it now wants to complete the trial quickly while avoiding unnecessary delays.
Statements from 139 witnesses have already been recorded
The witnesses the agency sought to remove include Dr. B.K. Mohapatra, Nandkumar B. Shinde, R.V. Adone, Naresh Shivram Kamble, Pranami Goswami Khaund, Arun Majumdar, Ravina Raj Kohli, and Shabnam Singh.
Ravina Raj Kohli previously served as the chairperson of Star News and CEO of Channel Nine, and had worked with Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea. Shabnam Singh is Peter Mukerjea’s first wife. Statements from both had already been recorded by the CBI.
Currently, Indrani Mukerjea’s lawyer, Ranjit Sanghle, is cross-examining two witnesses, which will be completed this week. In November, the CBI will present its investigating officers for testimony, including officers from Khar Police Station Dinesh Kadam to CBI officer K.K. Singh.
Permission granted to remove some witnesses from the list
The case has now reached a stage where only a few more CBI witnesses remain. After this, the agency can conclude its part of the proceedings in this case.
