Last night, a young man’s leg got stuck in a BMC drainage hole beneath Jogeshwari Metro Station in Mumbai. Despite all attempts, when his leg couldn’t be freed from the hole, people present at the scene informed the fire brigade. The fire brigade team that arrived at the spot managed to free his leg after nearly four hours of strenuous effort and admitted the young man to a nearby hospital.
Leg extracted by cutting the road
The victim’s name is Siddhesh. The incident occurred late at night around 12 o’clock. According to information, three groups were drinking alcohol there at that time. Suddenly, an argument broke out. Following this, one group ran away while a physical fight began between the other two. During this commotion, Siddhesh’s leg got stuck in the water drainage hole created by the BMC.
Initially, Siddhesh and his companions tried to free his leg but failed. The police and fire brigade were called out of necessity. After cutting the road for approximately four hours, Siddhesh was extracted. During this time, his oxygen level had also dropped.
Hole created for draining rainwater
The BMC created these holes for draining rainwater. The numerous existing holes have neither grilles installed nor any warning boards placed. In such conditions, this type of accident could happen to anyone and legs could get stuck. After this incident, questions arise: Shouldn’t the BMC have installed protective covers on these holes? Can the BMC work in such an irresponsible manner regarding people’s safety? Who will ultimately take responsibility for these open dangerous holes?
