A fire broke out at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai. The Chief Fire Officer stated that after the fire started, fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the hotel. The officer also mentioned that the hotel did not inform the fire department about the incident.

The fire officer confirmed that the hotel’s internal fire system helped control the blaze. Meanwhile, the Trident Hotel management released a statement claiming there was no fire—only black smoke from chimney cleaning.
A video from the scene shows black smoke rising from the upper floors of the hotel, with bystanders recording the incident on their phones. Fire control officials stated that a team was dispatched immediately after learning about the incident, but hotel staff had already contained the fire using internal safety systems.

Police say: Technical fault in tube boiler caused smoke

Police officials reported that smoke from the hotel’s chimney was due to a technical fault in the basement tube boiler. Passersby mistook it for a fire. Fire control teams from the brigade and the Oberoi Trident Hotel Authority inspected the premises and confirmed no fire occurred.
Trident Hotel has experienced fires before
This is not the first fire incident at Mumbai’s Trident Hotel. In the past, 10 fire engines were deployed to extinguish a blaze, and guests were evacuated from the Nariman Point location. Fortunately, no casualties were reported despite smoke filling the lobby.

Previously, a fire started in a clothing store connected to the Trident Hotel. Fire officials received the alert at night, and smoke quickly spread through the basement. Around 10 fire engines were dispatched, and the blaze was controlled within half an hour. The hotel was also targeted during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
