Kolkata Law College Rape Case: A senior political leader has made controversial remarks regarding the gang-rape of a student at Kolkata Law College. On Friday, commenting on the incident, the leader said, “What can be done if a friend rapes his own friend?” However, the MP also stated that the accused should be arrested.
The MP said, “I am not a lawyer in the Law College incident, but the accused should be arrested. Some people commit such crimes. But what can be done if a friend rapes his friend? Should police be stationed in schools? This was done by students to another student. Who will ensure her (the victim’s) safety? This (South Calcutta Law College) is a government college. Can police be present there all the time?”

Three accused arrested
In this shameful incident at Kolkata Law College, police have arrested three individuals. The accused have been identified as Manojit Mishra (31), Zab Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay alias Pramit Mukherjee (20).Main accused is a practicing criminal lawyer
Manojit Mishra is a former president of the student council unit and served as an organizational secretary of the student body’s south Kolkata branch. College authorities confirmed that Mishra was working as a temporary non-teaching staff member on a 45-day renewable contract. He is also a practicing criminal lawyer at Alipore Police and Sessions Court. The college’s vice-principal stated that Mishra’s appointment was based on a proposal passed by the institution’s governing body.Police confirmation
According to Kolkata Police, the incident occurred on June 25 in a guard’s room adjacent to the student union office on the college’s ground floor. Officials stated, “Preliminary investigation suggests the victim arrived at the college in the afternoon to fill out some academic forms after being called by certain individuals.”
