Major success for police in the valley, narcotics terrorist Gulzar Ahmad with Pakistan connection arrested; had been on the run for a long time.
Jammu-Kashmir News: In a major crackdown against drugs and organized crime, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested notorious drug smuggler, hardened criminal, and alleged narco-terrorist Gulzar Ahmed alias ‘Lau Gujjar’ from the Miran Sahib area. The accused, who had been on the run for a long time, was a key part of a major drug network operated from Pakistan, which supplied narcotics to many parts of the country including Jammu and Kashmir. According to police, the accused is a resident of Chak Wazir (Tehsil Bishnah) and has also been active in the Sarore area of Samba. Lau Gujjar, who had been evading arrest for the past 10-12 years, has been continuously involved in criminal activities since 2006 and after 2016, he firmly established his grip on the illegal drug trade.
Network Operated from Pakistan Exposed
The investigation has revealed that the threads of this entire network are connected to Pakistan. Sources indicate that the accused’s sister’s father-in-law had moved to Pakistan about 10 years ago and is currently imprisoned there. From there, he operated this network and sent consignments of drugs. The police investigation has also revealed that heroin was supplied across the border via drones, which was then routed to Jammu and Kashmir and other states through contacts in Punjab.
360 Kg of Heroin Smuggled
According to police, Lau Gujjar has smuggled approximately 360 kilograms of heroin so far, valued at around 792 crore rupees in the international market. Through this illegal trade, he also amassed wealth worth crores. The investigation has revealed that more than 27 cases are registered against the accused in Jammu district alone, while his name has appeared in about 100 FIRs across various states of the country. He used different aliases to conceal his identity. Apart from drug smuggling, Lau Gujjar has also been involved in serious crimes like cattle smuggling, theft, and attacks on police.
Preparations to Tighten the Noose on the Entire Network
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he used to procure heroin through his contacts in Punjab and then supply it to Jammu and other states. Currently, the police are conducting an in-depth investigation into this entire network. The identities of other individuals linked to the accused, the SIM cards used, financial transactions, and illegal assets are also being investigated. Jammu Police state that this operation is a major success against narco-terrorism and organized crime, and strict action will be taken against other individuals connected to this network in the coming days. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
