A poster has been found in Purulia offering a reward of one lakh rupees for killing MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato. The poster was discovered in the Kotsila police station area, according to Bengal BJP sources. The poster, targeting the MP over the state government’s ‘bulldozer operation’, has caused a stir in the Jangalmahal district. On Tuesday, the Purulia MP submitted a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police regarding the incident. The MP described it as a suspicious extremist-Naxalite poster and called for an investigation and action.

This district was once Maoist-affected, but currently there is no Maoist activity. The recovered poster is written in blue ink on white paper. Typically, CPI (Maoist) posters are written in red ink on white paper with their party name at the bottom. However, this poster, written in blue ink on white paper, has no name at the bottom. It is written in the Manbhumi language. The poster says, “Since the BJP government came, there is no peace in anyone’s life; the way houses are being demolished in Purulia, Jyotirmoy should be killed.” The poster mentions two locations: Majhidi and Khairi More. It warns, “If you demolish, you will not be able to rebuild your home.” The final line states, “One lakh rupees will be given for killing Jyotirmoy.”

Regarding this, the MP said, “I have filed a complaint with the police. Let the police investigate and take action.” He also submitted a written complaint to the police. In it, Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato expressed concern, writing that the content and language of the poster are highly suspicious and resemble the methods and messages of extremist and Maoist-Naxalite groups that have previously tried to create fear and unrest in the Jangalmahal region. Considering the sensitive history of the area, such an incident is a matter of serious concern. He also mentioned the attack on him before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the complaint. He wrote that the poster cannot be taken lightly. Notably, he added that it must be seen whether any extremist or Maoist-linked organization is trying to revive its activities in the area.
